Matt Mullican
Matt Mullican è nato nel 1951 a Santa Monica; vive e lavora a Berlino e New York.
Matt Mullican ha sempre lavorato con diversi tipi di media, dalla performance all’installazione ambientale, dalla scultura alla grafica digitale. Il suo lavoro oscilla tra diversi antagonisi, tra la realtà e la finzione, tra il soggetto e l’oggetto, tra il cosciente e l’incosciente, in modo da lavorare sul concetto di percezione, intesa non tanto come realtà obiettiva del visibile ma più come la proiezione delle esperienze soggettive.
A partire dalla metà degli anni Settanta, Mullican appare nelle performance in prima persona, in particolare sotto uno stato di ipnosi in modo da sperimentare stati di regressione o di cambiamento personale, e in modo da poter lavorare sulla sua propria psiche.
Le sue opere sono state presentate alla Biennale di Vienna (2017); alla 53° Biennale di Venezia a cura di Massimiliano Gioni (2013), alla Biennale di Gwangju (2010), alla 28th Biennale di San Paolo (2008), e a tre edizioni di Documenta (1997, 1993, 1982)
