Doug Aitken
Doug Aitken è nato nel 1968 a Redondo Beach. Vive e lavora a Los Angeles, CA.
Negli ultimi 24 anni, Aitken ha sviluppato una pratica senza pari che esplora la percezione delle immagini, delle narrazioni, in un'indagine continua sull'esperienza del 21° secolo. La dislocazione spaziale e temporale si mescola a una qualità onirica. Il suo lavoro assume spesso la forma di installazioni video immersive; video monocanale spesso proiettato sull'architettura, ma è anche caratterizzato da sculture testuali, opere architettoniche e sonore e fotografie.
Le opere di Aitken esplorano l'abisso tra l'ampia saturazione e disponibilità delle immagini e la vulnerabilità degli individui, in un periodo di enormi cambiamenti industriali e ambientali. Al contrario, c'è una sensibilità e una freddezza per l'ambiente in cui sono esposte le opere.
Aitken è il destinatario inaugurale del Frontier Art Prize, un nuovo premio per l'arte contemporanea che sostiene un artista di statura internazionale che persegue progetti audaci che sfidano i confini della conoscenza e dell'esperienza per reinventare il futuro dell'umanità. Ha ricevuto il Leone d'Oro alla Biennale di Venezia del 1999.
