Andra Ursuţa
Andra Ursuţa was born in 1979 in Salonta, Romania; she lives and works in New York.
Ursuţa works with sculpture, creating installations inspired by personal memories, along with past and present histories. Her work touches on dark notions such as violence, death, and war emulating feelings of melancholia whilst encompassing a sense of irony.
Ursuţa uses different materials of common use such as cement, wax, marble and plaster, superimposing popular, folkloristic, autobiographical symbolic references and reflections on her identity: constantly moving between the sacred and the profane highlighting the decadence of the Western culture based on the concept of purity and supremacy.
