PRESS RELEASE

MASSIMODECARLO PIÈCE UNIQUE OPENS IN PARIS

MASSIMODECARLO is pleased to announce that on Tuesday February 9, 2021 the gallery opens a new space in Paris called MASSIMODECARLO Pièce Unique.

Its sixth space to date (two in Milan, one in London, one in Hong Kong, and one virtual – named VSpace) is housed in a historical building at 57 Rue de Turenne renovated by acclaimed Japanese architect Kengo Kuma in collaboration with PiM.studio Architects.

MASSIMODECARLO Pièce Unique offers a flexible, dynamic, and unpredictable program of single-work unique exhibitions, visible day and night through its glass window.

The gallery has acquired the brand Pièce Unique, an adventurous space by iconic gallerist Lucio Amelio which opened in Paris in 1989 with a special design by Cy Twombly. MASSIMODECARLO Pièce Unique will respect and recast into the XXI Century the legacy of this historical project renewing the original idea, infusing a new perspective, and proposing an alternative exhibition model for the art system.

MASSIMODECARLO Pièce Unique opens with the first solo exhibition in Paris by acclaimed Los Angeles based artist Kaari Upson that premières a brand new work titled Clay Baby (m.l.). The exhibition offers a glimpse inside Kaari Upson’s world, and gives MASSIMODECARLO Pièce Unique the exceptional opportunity to enhance new conversations between the viewer and the artwork.

MASSIMODECARLO Pièce Unique is by statement an event-free gallery - no openings, no dinners, no VIPs - and experiments a new balance between physical projects and digital initiatives through an innovative website and its dedicated Instagram channel @massimodecarlopieceunique.
