For 30 years Massimo De Carlo has been playing a fundamental role in bringing the most interesting voices of international art to the Italian scene, and Italian artists into the global arena. This contributed to the promotion and establishment of a vital dialogue between artists and numerous national and international institutions, encouraging relationships between galleries, critics, curators, and collectors. Throughout the years, the gallery’s artists have been shown in international museums and biennials, and thus obtained an outstanding place into important public and private art collections.
Since 2019 Galleria Massimo De Carlo's new headquarters are located at Casa Corbellini-Wassermann, situated in Viale Lombardia 17, which was built in the early 1930s (1934-1936) by the renowned Italian architect Piero Portaluppi.
The spectacular palazzo that houses this new gallery was completed in 1787 by Giuseppe Piermarini, who also designed La Scala Theatre.
Palazzo Belgioioso is an archetypal neoclassical Milanese architecture. The stunning palazzo is the former library of the Belgioioso family and was ultimated in 1787 by Giuseppe Piermarini, the Architect of Teatro Alla Scala, who is largely responsible for the naissance of neo-classical architecture in Milan. The highly decorated rooms can boast the presence of some of the most erudite minds of the eighteenth-century. The interiors were realised by the talented practitioners, Giacomo Albertolli and Martin Knoller. The façade of the palace overlooks a beguiling piazza that additionally hosts the Casa Manzoni, birthplace of the renowned Italian writer Alessandro Manzoni.
In 2009, Massimo De Carlo opened a space in central London under the name Carlson Gallery.
In 2012, it moved to a new location. The gallery - renamed Massimo De Carlo, London – occupies three floors in a traditional Georgian townhouse in the heart of Mayfair.
Massimo De Carlo, London focuses on emerging American artists as well as working with the historically represented artists, featuring a diverse range of established artists on the frontier of the contemporary art world.
Massimo De Carlo inaugurated his new gallery in Hong Kong in March 2016. The gallery is located in the Pedder Building in Central.
After many years of operating on the Asian territory, both in Mainland China and Hong Kong - including an on-going role on the selection committee board of Art Basel Hong Kong - Massimo De Carlo started this new venture in China aiming to become part of its developing contemporary cultural landscape.
The space in Hong Kong is Massimo De Carlo’s third venue. The Hong Kong gallery inaugurates the year before the 30th anniversary of Massimo De Carlo gallery.
